4th of July Tri fold card –Cardmaker Magazine Facebook Challenge

7.20144thofjulytrifold 7.20144tofjulytrifold2This card was inspired by a challenge on the Cardmaker magazine Facebook page to create a tri fold card. I have never made one of those before so I Googled it and found directions easily.

I used red card stock that was clearanced out at Target and an old paper pad from Provo Craft. You could easily substitute any paper pad, embellishments you have on hand.

I also used the Inkadinkadoo vintage expressions stamp set for the “party” sentiment and stamped it in Versafine black onyx ink. I cut out the bird and uncle Sam and used foam dots to have those elements stand out a bit.

I used this stamp set for the other sentiment but cannot remember which set it is!

QUICK TIP:  I originally had the sentiments stamped directly onto the cardstock, but I accidentally smudged the brackets and I really didn’t want to start over, so instead I found some coordinating paper from the same paper pad and re stamped the sentiments onto the cardstock and glued those onto the card. I find I like that even better!  Never give up when an accident happens. There is usually a way to save your project!

I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to make a tri fold card.  I kept this card relatively simple because I wanted to test out the technique first. It is really fun and the card has tons of little spaces to embellish. I will definitely try this again.

4th of July wreath

IMG_20140630_162433I found a great sale at Michael’s today. All their 4th of July stuff was 50% off. I had been wanting to make a new wreath and with that sale I couldn’t resist picking up the materials I needed. Stay tuned….assembly in progress.

IMG_20140630_175625Here is the finished product. For the burlap ribbon, I used floral wire and looped it through the spaces in the ribbon to keep the big loops I made from falling apart. I also used floral wire to keep the flowers in place.  It was just a pretty organic process and I just played around with it until it looked good to my eye.

I love a good bargain, and I finally have a 4th of July wreath.

P.S. I can never leave a project alone, especially a wreath. I added some more of the star burlap ribbon. I am not sure if I will keep it. I will keep readjusting it as I look at it more. I can’ t seem to help myself. 20140630_184243P.P.S I really need to paint my door. My other wreath that is normally there is bigger and it has definitely scratched the paint. Ouch!
